Choosing the right garage doors for your home can be a difficult task. You want doors which complement your home but don’t want to spend a fortune and there are options available for you. Main considerations when picking a new set include: colour, material, whether you want windows and design as they are a major part of how your house looks on the exterior. You should never try to fit them yourself unless you are qualified to do so and here are some other great tips to ease the choosing process.

1. Consider the style of your home. If you have a modern house, it would look strange to install wooden panelled ones and equally an older house would look awful with a modern iron design. Think about what will complement your home before making your purchase. Perhaps consider the choices of your neighbours and those in the surrounding area.

2. Consider the style of your door. Are you hoping for a roll up sectional design or are you happy with a tilt-up style? Tilt-up styles tend to be cheaper but they can make the space inside slightly smaller as they need to be able to swing.

3. Consider the level of maintenance you’re willing to commit to. If you opt for a wooden design you need to be aware they need staining and sealing every four years as well as weekly cleaning to ensure they remain in good condition. Steel, fibreglass or metal designs only need occasional washing and this can be easily done if you have a hose. All models will need regularly mechanical maintenance on an annual basis to ensure the mechanism remains in full working order.

4. Consider what material you would prefer for your home. Metal doors can dent and scratch easily so may not be a great option if you’ve got football loving children! Wooden doors can also splinter and crack if not properly cared for. Fibreglass is the most popular and hardwearing material and is only likely to crack in extremely cold climates.

5. Consider your price range. Wooden and fibreglass designs are usually more expensive than metal. If you opt for insulation, this again will add more expense but provides great weatherproofing for the inside area. High quality models will set you back a reasonable amount so calculate your budget before choosing your design.

There are many things you should consider before purchasing your new garage doors and if you follow these useful tips, you’ll be sure to find the perfect set for your home.
