Uses for Cardboard Boxes

The most common material for standard storage boxes is cardboard. Cardboard boxes are versatile, come in a huge range of sizes and shapes. If you have something that needs packing, you’ll be bound to find a box that fits.



There are countless practical uses for these items. Obviously, the most straight forward and simple usage is for short term storage of your goods for haulage or other transportation for example if you’re moving house or business premises. In an office environment they can be extremely handy if used (with lids) for paper storage. They’re great for housing old files and information which you need to keep but have no everyday use for. At home, you could use them for keeping old books, clothes or toys in. If your kids have grown up and you’re not quite ready to throw out all their things, these are the perfect solution to storing all their stuff. Hide them away in your attic and basement and your items are kept secure, safe and out of the way. Shoeboxes are great for smaller items and you can even purchase specifically designed items which are great for storing photographs, crafting items or general papers. What makes them so great? Basically, they’re light weight, incredibly sturdy and very cheap. They’re also easy to dispose of and recycle when you’re done with them. The only downside is the fact that they are essential reinforced paper and so are not waterproof and probably not a great idea for long term storage in a garage or outdoor area. If you’re using them for your spring clean they’re fantastic as they can be chucked with the rubbish!



If you don’t know where to find them, look no further than your local community. In some circumstances, like you have a very specific item that needs packing, you may need to purchase the container. For most purposes however you can just ask around local stores and businesses. Supermarkets are a great place to start as they have tons of wasted card and they’d probably be happy for you to take it off their hands. If you’re moving house you will need to check the containers are of good enough quality to hold your heaviest items.
